A Sweet Job

Kung is an enthusiastic 28-year-old apprentice baker, but prior to using Northcott’s Jobmatch service, he had difficulty finding a job due to his hearing disability. Kung is deaf and primarily communicates using Auslan.

Kung enjoys his job at Woolworths Wetherill Park, where he makes doughnuts, iced buns and cream buns, as well as labeling products.

“Working at Woolworths is really fun,” Kung said. “The other staff are really friendly and I can joke around with them.”

“Without Northcott’s Jobmatch service, it would be impossible for me to get a job. Because of my hearing disability, Jobmatch was able to speak to employers for me on the phone and even arrange interpreters for interviews.”

In addition to facilitating communication between Kung and potential employers, something that non-hearing impaired people can take for granted, Jobmatch also assisted Kung by helping him to write and improve his resume.

Looking to the future, Kung would like to stay at Woolworths: “I’d like to become a Duty Manager or 2IC, maybe even Bakery Manager!”
